Tim Lunt receives an NZBI Scholarship
Victoria University Masters student Tim Lunt has been awarded an NZBI Scholarship to study the transmission of honeybee disease American foulbrood.
In this summary of his study Tim says:
“Honey bees are a key part of our primary industries. This project involves direct interaction with New Zealand beekeeping groups and biosecurity agencies (NZ bee health and biosecurity), to gain insight into how the deadliest disease of honey bees (American foulbrood) is being transmitted at a regional scale by beekeepers. I further seek to understand how the bacteria responsible for American foulbrood build up within hives before symptoms arise, the results of which may potentially shape future management strategies around control and eradication.
